We are heading to the original home of the Dharawal people. John Macarthur is famous in this area too for producing fine quality merino wool. Now we can visit the beautiful gardens that have been created here.

Starting from Haywards Bay, we'll take Macquarie Pass and then the picturesque country lanes around Robertson and Mittagong. We'll then cruise along Old Hume Highway / Remembrance Drive, before jumping onto the Hume Freeway at Bargo for a quick run up to Mt Annan. It is a short but enjoyable run of 110km / 1.5hr.

The Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan, est. 1988, showcases Australian flora amongst rolling hills and lakes in Sydney’s suburban south-west. It is the largest botanic garden in Australia, occupying 416 hectares with over 2000 plant species. Situated on former farmland, it contains remnant Cumberland Plain Woodland, a critically endangered ecological community of the region.

We will take a driving tour through the Garden before parking at the Visitor Centre. Fiona will then lead us on a short self-guided walking tour. Lunch will be a BYO picnic at one of the many shelters throughout the gardens. Alternate arrangements will be made in case of wet weather.

Remember to pack your picnic lunch!
