The Canberra Centenary Trail is a walking/cycling track which traverses 145kms of the ACT.  It was opened in 2013 to celebrate Canberra’s Centenary, hence the name!  It is divided into seven sections of about 20 kms each.  Section 1 is 20.6 kms and goes from Parliament House, through the Parliamentary Triangle, across Kings Avenue Bridge, round part of Lake Burley Griffin, up Anzac Parade, round the back of the War Memorial, over Mt Ainslie, then over Mt Majura, cross under the  Federal Highway and to Horsepark Drive in Throsby.

Today we will walk the first half of Section 1, a distance of 10/11 kms.  Note that participants will need to be fit enough to walk for three hours with a break of 15-20 minutes half way, carrying a backpack with an adequate supply of water and snacks.  Dress to the conditions, but wear layers so you can take some garments off as you warm up.

Bring hat and sunscreen, at least 2 litres of water and snacks.

We will meet at the carpark on the right hand side of Horsepark Drive, 330 metres from the end of exit ramp off the Federal Highway, leave half of the cars there, then drive to the beginning of today’s walk at Kellaway St in Hackett in the other half of the cars.  At the end of the walk, those drivers will return their passengers back to collect their cars.  I would recommend that we use family cars instead of MX5s for this outing, for carpooling purposes.
