Canberra Christmas in July
Our Christmas in July plans have been jiggled to accommodate the latest Covid-19 restrictions and the general uncertainty about travelling to regional centres.
Rather than travelling to Galong, we have decided to stick somewhat closer to home and journey to downtown Kaleen instead. But to get everyone in the mood, we’ll take a slight detour first.
First, the Christmas in July Run – From our starting point at The Baker in Sutton, we will head to Murrumbateman, travel on to Yass, head east towards Wee Jasper, cut back to Canberra via Mountain Creek Road and then mosey on past the emerging suburb of Whitlam as we meet up again at our lunch spot.
We are looking at around 150 km over two hours on mostly rural (and occasionally narrow) roads. The roads are usually quiet, although there may be a little weekend traffic, and for the most part are in good condition.
We will travel in a loose convoy. In terms of the Club’s Grading System, this run is classified as ‘Cruiser’ and is suitable for all drivers.

Then, then Christmas in July Lunch – Our friends at The Clubhouse (formerly the Eastlake Sports Club, Kaleen) will deliver a traditional two-course Christmas Lunch in our own room. There will be door prizes and general merriment.
- The Clubhouse is located at 16 Georgina Crescent, Kaleen. There is plenty of free parking.
- Lunch is at 12.30.
- Cost is $40 per person, payable on the day (preferably cash).
If you'd rather not take part in the run, but just join us for lunch, that’s not a problem, but please let us know when you register.
You must register for the Christmas in July lunch before Wednesday 21 July, as we need to let the Club know our final numbers.
