If you were a child of the 50's, 60's or early 70's then this is the run for you. After 2021 being a year of lockdowns, vaccines shortages etc, whats better than a run into the autumn countryside reliving the experiences of yesteryear. This run will bring back the sights of 50's 60's cars (sorry no MX5's) memories of man landing on the moon and the music of that era.
This will be a 3 day trip leaving from South Nowra on Friday 11 March heading to Forbes, We will be stopping in Goulburn for morning tea and to pick up any members from further south or others who may wish to join us. Lunch will be at Boorowa, given that there are 2 pubs a bakery and 3 cafes all within the short main street we will leave it open as to where you may wish to have a bite for lunch, please ensure that you will be ready to leave on time. As the first day we will be covering over 450km, a relaxing dinner that evening will be organised.at Club Forbes directly opposite our motel.
Accommodation for 2 nights has been organised at The Plainsman Motel (www.plainsmanmotel.com.au) (Phone is: 02 6852 2466) situated in the town centre. Standard twin rooms are $125 pernight, newly renovated rooms are $135 per night.10 rooms have been reserved in the name of “MX5 Club South Coast chapter,” Speak to Marilyn or Steve when booking, additional rooms may be available if required, all bookings to be made by 18th February. Breakfast is not included in the room rate but there is a bakery opposite and a number of cafes in the vicinity. A common room is available for drinks and nibbles each afternoon.
Saturday morning will be the highlight of the weekend ,being spent at McFeeters Motor museum (motormuseum.net.au) where we have arranged for a guided tour by the museum owner Bill McFeeter . The cost is $10 per head including the guided tour, tickets will be valid for 2 full days if you wish to return.
An on site cafe will provide coffee morning tea or lunch if you require.
After lunch you can either take a drive up to Parkes to see the CSIRO Telescope, star of “The Dish"( 30-35minutes drive) or visit the Elvis museum at the Parkes information centre (there is a car collection there as well). Alternatively spend more time in the Motor museum and around Forbes.
Other alternatives for the afternoon are to follow the Lachlan valley way towards Condoblin stopping every 15-20k to see the statues in the paddock following the Lachlan river. (www.somewheredownthelachlan.com) Nearby Eugowra has numerous excellent murals on buildings scattered around the town.
Dinner on Saturday will be determined closer to date, either Chinese at the Sports club or The Forbes Hotel
Leaving Sunday morning you will be free to make your own way home, an option is to visit the Japanese gardens in Cowra on the way, who knows even an extra overnight stop in Cowra or some place before arriving home on Monday after an enjoyable long weekend.
