Fly Away to Nowra
CAMS Permit No.219/1308/01
Join us for a guided tour of the museum to be followed by lunch at Pelican Rocks Seafood Restaurant..
For those in the “further south” group, meet at Heritage Bakery in Milton at 9 am for coffee, departing at 10 am for the trip to Nowra.
Developed in 1974 from a small collection of naval aviation relics and five obsolete RAN aircraft by a very energetic team of Navy volunteers, the Fleet Air Arm Museum has grown to be a vibrant regional museum and an important aviation museum.
Now containing over 25 aircraft and numerous aviation artefacts, the museum describes the history of naval aviation in general, as well as the development of the Royal Australian Navy’s Fleet Air Arm.
Volunteers are drawn mostly from the local community and former Navy personnel. The museum boasts a 6,000 m2, two-storey exhibition centre, souvenir shop, café, function centre, theatre and airfield viewing platform.
The museum’s verandah overlooks the historic airfield at HMAS Albatross which has served the RAAF, the USAAC, the Royal Navy, the RNZAF, and the RAN since it was established in 1941.
After a guided tour of the museum and after the "kids" have stopped playing in the helicopter simulator we will be saddling up for a drive down to Greenwell Point for lunch at Pelican Rocks Seafood Restaurant, voted best fish and chips cafe in NSW.
Note: Change of venue for lunch. Pelican Rocks closed for next two weeks. Lunch now at Huskisson - Club Jervis.
