Run to Copeland Gold Mine
Run to Copeland Mountain Maid Mine 19th March 2020 Join Jenny and Barry on their trek to Copeland via the back roads of the Hunter Valley.
This will be a leisurely drive commencing from Thornton McDonalds at 9.00 am. Leaving the subdivisions of Thornton via Raymond Terrace Road we will travel via historic Seaham and Clarence Town across to Bucketts Way and then on to a BYO morning tea at Stroud Showground.
After refreshments and comfort stop we will make our way along Bucketts Way through scenic farm land and on to Gloucester. We now enter the foot hills of the Barrington Ranges to arrive at our destination, the Historic Mountain Maid Gold Mine controlled by the NSW Parks and Wild Life.
Returning to Gloucester later for lunch with reservations at the Roundabout Inn.
Fortunately this beautiful area has escaped the summer bushfires and you will see the red cedars that drew the early explorers and the relics left behind by the gold prospectors and miners. The area is a significant habitat for native species.
Safety
- Giant stinging trees are to be avoided
- The reserve contains deep holes and shafts with concealed entries.
- Insect repellent is a must.
- Don’t forget you hat and closed in walking shoes.
- Also bring your water bottle and sunburn cream
