South Coast Gathering
Hullo fellow MX5ers,
Anda and I have been talking about forming a South Coast chapter of the MX-5 Club for a considerable amount of time. Always it is “We must make a start on this” and there is always something else coming up.
Bryan Shedden supplied us with a list of email addresses and phone numbers of MX-5 club members from the south coast area but, until now, we have failed to act.
Today is the day.
First we are sending this email to all the people we know about who might be interested in joining a South Coast chapter. Some of you are, like us, members of the Illawarra chapter and some, further south, are members of the Canberra chapter. This is not an impediment to forming a South Coast chapter. Indeed, we would envisage maintaining close contacts with both of these chapters, particularly for special runs.
Anda and I have, in the past, been active in the Illawarra chapter but the four hour drive to attend monthly meetings or Saturday morning coffee get togethers is a bit much. We have been restricting our activities to day and weekend trips which we feel is not enough. Consequently, we are proposing to form a chapter based on Milton/Ulladulla. This is less than an hours drive from Nowra and an hour’s drive from Moruya.
If there is sufficient interest in a South Coast chapter we would propose similar regular activities for the chapter as occur in other chapters such as Illawarra and Canberra. This may be a monthly coffee run on a Saturday morning and perhaps a monthly dinner meeting at a local club or restaurant. All of this would, of course, be at the will of the members, but, in forming this group, Anda and I would be happy to take initial responsibility for organising dates and venues.
We would also envisage organising weekends away as a South Coast chapter and in concert with other chapters.
Anda will attempt to contact each of you by phone over the next week to answer any questions you may have but, as a first step, we are proposing to have an initial get together at a café in Milton on Saturday morning, 2 February. We propose to meet at Annabelle’s in Milton. This is located adjacent to the car park behind the Milton theatre. Parking is easy and the coffee is great. We have arranged for the use of a special area at the rear of the cafe for our meeting.
