2020 MX-5 Club Motorkhana R2

06 June 2020 / Ian Combes

I know that a lot of people have been hanging out for this, but running any motorsport event in the current COVID-19 environment needs a fair amount of planning and preparation, before we can even apply for a permit from Motorsport Australia.

There was a small window of opportunity between the event being feasible, and having to get entries open in time. It was a scamble, but we got there!

The permit application is now in, so we are hoping it goes through relatively smoothly. Because of the short time period to the event, we are opening entries in parallel. We are confident that our planning is good, but it depends upon Motorsport Australia turning around the permit in time.

Although things are gradually getting back to some resemblance of normal, we still need to run this event with careful social distancing rules and group size management. Everyone knows about the 1.5m rule. The other rule entrants need to keep in mind is the 10 person group rule – only 10 people are allowed in a 40m2 area. With this in mind, we are running this event as two half-day 20 person mini-events. Each 20 person group is divided into 10 person groups – one at either end of the skidpan.

The exact arrangements will be communicated later, but please ready the COVID-19 plan attached to the event page. This will give you a head start in how to approach this event. Please read the Supplementary Regulations too – they have changed for this event.

Briefing notes will be sent out to all entrants as there are a number of special arrangements for this event.
