The Putty road is one of the last great drives around Sydney / Hunter areas especially on a week day when it is almost deserted of motor cyclists with death wishes.
Five cars and seven brave members assembled at Beresfield Service Centre for a 9.30 start on a cold and wet Thursday morning. Roof up or down, well it is not actually raining now, so some up and some down. Stopped for roofs up on route at Kurri with rain increasing. Our morning tea is at Hunter Valley Gardens. Hot drinks all round and discussion on the risks associated with travelling on a wet and windy Putty road. Decision made, we will travel to Bulga and either turn left to Putty Road or turn right to lunch at Singleton and return via Maitland Vale Road.
Arrived at Bulga and parked up in front of the school. We are happy little MX5 drivers, the weather has completely changed with light cloud and sunshine. Tops down and off to Grey Gums cafe we go, great run down the Putty Road with little traffic to impede our progress until 6 Km from Grey Gums we all come to a halt, Road Works!! Of cause this will be a minor delay, 15 minutes sign is still on stop, 20 minutes one of our group turns around and returns up the Putty Road and the remainder of us walking up and down the line of cars, 30 minutes, seemed forever, we finally get to go. Lunch at Grey Gums was well deserved.
One car left Grey Gums immediately after lunch, and three cars finally left Grey Gums to return up the Putty Road, Road works were a slight delay and remainder of the run was just pure fun.
Many thanks to the members, who braved the weather and contributed to a great day out in the country side.
