Bellbrook Picnic Run

22 January 2021 / Roby Leckenby

A small but keen group met up at Oliver’s for our Sunday run to Bellbrook via Pembrooke, Telegraph Point and Kempsey. Our select group comprised of our run leader Peter M with Jill as his co-pilot, Allen in his ND, but sadly without Pam who was unwell, but fortunately not with Covid. Also participating were Peter R with Roby in his new 21 year old NB Heritage together with Keiran and Bec in Peter’s old Heritage.

Peter M had booked morning tea at Kempsey’s Tumblegum Café however when he rang to confirm our booking he discovered that Tumblegum is closed on Sundays! However a quick phone call secured a booking at the Depot Café.

Peter R led the first stage of the run out towards Wauchope, then via Redbank, Pembrooke and the Rollands Plains Road to Telegraph Point where Peter M took over as run leader.

Our next stop was the Depot Café in Kempsey where we were met by prospective members Andrew and Diana driving their special edition NC. Following our repast at the Depot we were back in our cars for the drive to Bellbrook. This is a beautiful scenic drive that follows the Macleay River and with the appropriate vehicle (not an MX-5) one can travel all the way to Armidale. Not being in appropriate vehicles our group chose to drive to the end of the tarred road before turning around and heading back to Bellbrook.

We hoped to have our picnic lunch down by the riverside but as there was no picnic area by the river we drove back up the hill for our lunch in the picnic shelter at Bellbrook. Even though spread over two picnic tables we were still able to catch up and engage in pleasant conversation.

Once lunch was over we said our farewells and headed off home after a most enjoyable day.
