Byabarra via Gingers creek

29 November 2020 / Roby Leckenby

It was a select group that met at the Donut for our run to Byabarra via Stockyard Creek on a pleasant Saturday morning. Allen in his ND, Wayne and Cath in their NB, Peter and Jill in their highly modified SP (cleverly disguised as a KIA SUV) and Roby and Peter in their NB Heritage.

The initial plan was to stop at Wauchope for morning tea and then drive up to Ginger’s Creek Roadhouse for refreshments, prior to driving back down to Byabarra for lunch. However due to time constraints, morning tea at Wauchope was cancelled together with Ginger’s Creek and instead we had a very enjoyable picnic morning tea at Stockyard Creek, just down the hill from Ginger’s.

After negotiating the Saturday morning crawl through Wauchope’s main street we looked forward to a spirited run up the Oxley to Stockyard Creek. That is, until being caught behind a caravan proceeding at a leisurely pace up the mountain. A couple of our group managed to pass the caravan with the rest of us enjoying the scenery until the caravan eventually pulled over to let us pass. We also had the opportunity to observe a couple of motor cyclists play Russian Roulette.

United at last, we chatted and watched the traffic come and go until it was time to retrace our way back down the mountain. Once again we became separated, this time being slowed down by a ute with a motor cycle on the back, however we were eventually able to pass and have some fun going down the mountain.

Waiting for us at Byabarra for lunch were Greg and Jane in their RF. We were given a Covid safe table on a separate veranda where we were able to enjoy great company, interesting conversation and a beautiful view. As always the food was delicious, though having to choose from a huge range of tempting desserts was a challenge for some.

After a most pleasant lunch we all made our individual ways home.
