Lunch at Cupitt’s Winery

The day was predicted to be cold, wet and windy and that is the way it started. Hardly great conditions for lunch on the deck at Cupitt’s. So, a call was made and the friendly staff at Cupitt’s set aside a table inside while still allowing us to select from their informal deck menu. Fortunately, we set out in warm winter sunshine, conditions which persisted for the afternoon.

Meeting at the Heritage Bakery our convoy set off for the shortest run of the year, all 4.5 Kms, appropriate for the shortest day of the year. After all, one does not want to run out of daylight.

Arriving at the winery we settled down to some pre lunch beverages and placed our orders. The menu contained an extensive range of starter plates, each sufficient for a light lunch, although most also selected one of their delicious pizzas to be shared as a main. Cupitts wine and their craft ales were excellent but some could not resist finishing lunch with an affogato.

The winery enjoys magnificent views over the Milton district, all the way to the mountains, Pigeon House prominent amongst them.

The lunch gave us an opportunity to celebrate the 49th wedding anniversary of our regular Illawarra members (honorary South Coast chapter members) Bill and Jan Short. A decorated dessert and a rousing rendition of “Happy Anniversary”.

The wind and rain stayed away and allowed us a pleasant drive home with hardly any need to refuel.
