Mount Seaview Resort Run
24 November 2016 / Words and pictures by Greg Cox
After early morning storms and heavy rain, our group of nine intrepid members in six MX-5s departed the Port Macquarie Service Centre for Mount Seaview.
Light rain necessitated a roof up configuration as we drove west through Wauchope and Byabarra to climb the Broken Back mountain range to Comboyne.
Low cloud and fog as we climbed the range brought visibility down to around 20 metres, slowing our progress and reducing our enjoyment of this nice winding climb.
On reaching the summit we decided to turn back and descend to better visibility and our morning tea stop at the Byabarra Café and Bakery in Byabarra.
Small rocks that had fallen on the road made the blind decent even more perilous.
After a relaxing morning tea, while the weather cleared and sun returned, we continued our run back to the Oxley highway, and west through Long Flat and Ellenborough, enjoying this iconic road now with tops down.
We soon arrived at our lunch destination, the Mount Seaview Resort. A working cattle farm with licensed restaurant and accommodation set in a secluded and picturesque river valley off the main highway.
Quad bike and river rafting is also available for the more adventurous.
A leisurely lunch was enjoyed by all before Chris, who had joined us from Coffs Harbour, and Graham & Pingy, needed to head for home.
It was then decided that Wayne would lead the remaining group up to Gingers Creek Roadhouse for further refreshments.
The early stage of this drive was spoiled by an unthinking driver with a horse float, who would not pull over to allow the traffic behind to pass.
Surprisingly, even Wayne’s sign language at the driver failed to communicate his frustration ! !
Eventually arriving at Gingers Creek we enjoyed a drink and some conversation before departing on our respective ways home.
Over 700 motorcycles met at Gingers Creek the preceding Saturday to protest the proposed new speed limits on the Oxley Highway.
Hopefully this will not be our final run at reasonable speeds on one of the states most enjoyable drives.
