Sculptures for Clyde

On a cloudy last day of autumn 2023, seven club members headed off to Batemans Bay for the outdoor art show, ‘Sculpture for Clyde 2023’, a ten-day event held on the south bank of the Clyde River off Clyde Street.

We stopped for coffee and cake at Vanilla Catering on the main street in Braidwood. Then a twisty run down to the Bay. We meet up with Leann from the Illawarra Chapter for lunch at Café Se7en, under the new Clyde River Bridge. Café Se7en is light filled and the food was fresh and excellent.

After lunch, we walked up Clyde Street to the sculpture exhibition just as the sun emerged from the overcast sky. Sculpture for Clyde resumed in 2023 after a Covid 19 hiatus. Entry is free and the main prize is acquisitive, in that the organisers buy the winning sculpture. This sculpture is then added to the existing eight sculptures in the Bateman’s Bay Sculpture Walk along the bay foreshore at Beach Road.

There were 51 outdoor sculptures along the bay, and 59 indoor sculptures in a marquee. The quality of the sculptures was high and many intriguing and beautiful works were on display.

This is a beautiful addition to the Bay with superb bay and ocean views.

Then home via the run up the Clyde Mountain. In all, an excellent day.
