Australia Day Picnic

 26 January 2023

With the weather being so unseasonal during the past months, we were lucky to wake up to a cloudless blue sky for our first 2023 Chapter run to Cordeaux Dam. Four cars met at Tomerong, including Sue & Martin, Brian & Anda, Dewi & Neil and Geoff & Rose. Although the temperature was already indicating it would be a very hot day, three cars decided to start the journey with their tops down while one car decided to take advantage of the air conditioning.

The drive up the mountain and through Kangaroo valley was beautiful and even though we were following a caravan and a truck, they didn’t slow us down much. The corners on this road are always fun in an MX5. It was good to see the repairs on this road, after last year’s landslide, had almost been completed. Except for Range Road, which still had quite a few potholes, most of the roads were in good condition. Although the roads were busier than usual, we didn’t strike any holdups until Picton Road where the traffic came to a standstill for a while.

The picnic was in full swing when our Chapter arrived at Cordeaux Dam.

Many other Chapters were present, with the largest number being from Illawarra. We were all made welcome, and it wasn’t long before we were catching up with friends, meeting new people and eating lamingtons. The cricket match didn’t last long as the heat forced the players to retire for drinkies.

Seeing so many MX5’s in one location was spectacular and some of the members took advantage of parking like coloured cars together for a photo shoot.

Overall, it was a fun day and a great start to the MX5 year.
