Tarago Turnout
12 August, 2023
On a brisk sunny morning our group of lunch munchers met at Milton. We had Christine and Rick, Chris and Ian, Rose and guest Sophie, Maggie, Paul, Ian, Brian and Anda, seven cars in the convoy. Battery problems kept Rose’s MX5 in the garage and she was driving the alternate Mazda.
The day started with coffee and cakes, and the odd sausage roll, at the Milton Heritage Bakery, and at the appointed hour we set off, with Rose as tail end charlie. Traffic was light and we made good time, all below the posted speed limit until we reached the outskirts of Batemans Bay. Without warning all the speed signs were covered and over the crest, a speed camera. Confused, we all slowed down but with no idea of the required speed for the area. It is to be hoped that none of us was over the mystery speed limit. More government revenue raising.
Our journey continued over Clyde Mountain with light traffic and a great run for our little cars. Reaching Braidwood we stopped for a comfort break before continuing on our journey to Tarago. The Goulburn Road to Tarago had extensive stretches under repair and freshly watered dirt stretches completely ruined the wash job done on our car.
Turning into the Pub parking area we discovered three red MX5s, including a lovely NA, all belonging to Canberra chapter members, Simon and Cathy, Allan, and Chris. We were later joined by a couple of Canberra “ring ins”, Angelo and Briohny, all made welcome.
The Pub was warm and inviting, with fires in the main room to chase away the winter chill outside. Time for a pre-lunch drink and then time to order. The consensus was that the Tarago Pub lunch was its usual standard, being freshly cooked, tasty and plentiful. It was good the see so many Canberra chapter members join us for lunch and social interaction. Simon and Cathie are becoming welcome regulars at South Coast events. It is great to see the links being forged between our various chapters, each of us with a common interest in our cars but finding other areas of common ground.
After a pleasant lunch and much chit chat it was time for us to wend our way home, the South Coast group via the Nerriga Road. Another great day out for lunch.
