The Linga Longa Pub Drive

After a couple of aborted attempts to get this much anticipated trip up and running (blame Covid-19, pub staff shortages and wet weather), the spring weather was at it’s best for our run on Sunday 16 October 2022. We had 20 cars and 37 participants, which included a few new members and guests which was great to see.

We set off from Thornton with the large assembly divided into two groups, the first being led by George and Jen, and the 2nd group being led by John. No mishaps or misadventures were encountered, except for one missed right hand turn in Group 2, due to us all enjoying the open road, a bit of chatting in the lead car, with the following 5 cars in their own little world just following the leader (as we tend to do!). Morning tea was at Townsend Park, Singleton, with many of us braving the very automated toilets unscathed, and most of us enjoying far too many of the home-made treats on offer for morning tea.

We then continued our drive on the back roads taking us past the mammoth open cut mines to the gorgeous horse country of Scone surrounds. Then a lovely lunch was enjoyed in the outdoor beer garden of the Linga Longa pub, where the staff did an admirable job of coping with all of us as well as the other diners enjoying the fabulous weather. After a lingering lunch (we definitely tried to Linga Longa), goodbyes were said, and everyone headed back home under their own steam. A very big thank you to George and Jen who organised such a wonderful day, which included at least 2 reccie runs, to ensure our cars didn’t fall into pot holes that may have suddenly appeared with all the recent wet weather.
