Westhead Twilight Run

After a very wet Sydney week we were lucky to have fine weather for our twilight run starting at Macca’s, Mt Colah. It was a hot and very humid 33 as the 15 cars and 26 members from Sydney, Illawarra and RPM chapters set off for West Head. My better half commented how surprisingly cool the breeze was once we were on the move. I mumbled agreement and quietly congratulated myself for turning on the aircon before we set off.
What a great sight, seeing the long column of cars winding through the beautiful scenery and wildflowers of the Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park while listening to the bird life. So serene/quiet at Bobbin Head with all the picnickers gone by the evening.
Despite Maree insisting over the radio that there would be no church visits this time, the traffic light gods remained in our favour. With some great teamwork we managed to smoothly sail together as a group through the suburban areas of St Ives and Terry Hills. Appreciating the cooling effect offered by the trees in the late afternoon we re-entered the national park, keeping a sharp lookout for Skippy. We figured that any unplanned encounters could turn out very badly for both Skippy and our MX5’s. In the end, no sign of Skip or Sonny.
Travelling further on through Akuna Bay and passing the locals fishing from the roadside, we lamented leaving our fishing gear at home. Well, perhaps not, as we were all looking forward to dinner at Terry Hills Tavern.
Before long we arrive at West Head lookout and enjoyed the magnificent views of the Central Coast and Palm Beach/ Barrenjoey Lighthouse. Hunger pangs were now starting to creep in, so we set off along the final leg to Terry Hills Tavern, enjoying great food and company.
Thanks Steve and Maree for organising a fantastic, navigation error free twilight run.
