Round 6 of the CSCA Supersprint Series was held at Sydney Motorsport Park’s Druitt Circuit on Sunday 27 September, with the event organised by the Jaguar Drivers Club. The round also counted towards the MX-5 Club Sprint Championship.
The 84-driver field was divided into six run groups, with the final group dedicated to driver training and not timed. The MX-5 Club was strongly represented, with 27 drivers taking part. All but four were in MX-5s, with three Toyota GR Yaris and a Volkswagen Golf R making up the non-MX-5 contingent.
Once again, however, the weather played a major role. The morning started with overcast skies and a dry track, allowing drivers one opportunity to set a genuinely fast time. Light drizzle arrived as the second run began and persisted for the rest of the day. With the track becoming increasingly slippery, all of the fastest times were recorded in the opening run. The remainder of the day became an exercise in car control and managing limited grip.

Chris Andry borrowed a supercharged NC from Jason Russell and treated it with great respect!
Luke Kovacic produced the standout MX-5 performance, winning the Clubman class in his MX-5 30AE with a 1:13.523. His time was almost exactly on the class benchmark (100.10%). It gave him first place in the MX-5 Club Sprint Championship and CSCA Class M1, which means that Luke won the CSCA Champion Driver for the second consecutive year.
Jason Russell was the fastest MX-5 Club driver overall, taking the Open class with a 1:12.174, taking first place in MX-5 Open class and CSCA Class R5. Jason finished the CSCA Champion Driver competition in second place on 70 points, just two behind Luke.

The CSCA Championship is now finalised, with the MX-5 Club taking a commanding victory in the Club Championship with 1,129 points, well clear of Triumph on 515 and Lotus on 483. Luke's overall CSCA Champion Driver victory capped an outstanding season for the Club. Other notable MX-5 Club results in the CSCA Championship included class victories for Paul Dierking in P1, Reece Lyndon in P2, David Phillips in R2, and Jason Russell in R5. The full CSCA results are here.
In the MX-5 Club Sprint Championship, Ralph Thompson was second in Clubman (98.02%), while Scott McGarry (97.75%) completed the class podium. Bryan Shedden won Standard (96.19%), and Robert Muir led Modified (90.80%). The Non-MX-5 class was won by Georgios Zaharof in a Toyota GR Yaris Rallye with an impressive 1:08.788 – the third fastest time of the day.
While the CSCA season has now concluded, the MX-5 Club Sprint Championship has one final round to run. The championship will be decided at the NSW/VIC Interstate Challenge at Phillip Island on 6 December, where Club competitors will have one last opportunity to add to their points tally and settle the 2026 MX-5 Club Sprint Championship.
After a season repeatedly affected by wet weather, everyone will be hoping for dry conditions at Phillip Island and a fitting finale to the championship. Good luck to everyone who will make the long drive south.
