FarCry CMS
The MX-5 Club website is built using the FarCry Content Management System (CMS).
A training manual is available here which details how to use FarCry. It is a recommended reference for anyone that creates or manages content on the MX-5 Club website.
For even more information, the FarCry Developer Jump Start Guide is here. It goes into the nuts and bolts of the FarCry CMS, however, this document contains information for web site developers and is way beyond what is required for users of the MX-5 Club website. It is included here only for anyone interested to go further with FarCry ... much further.
FarCry Workflow
Most FarCry content types have a simple workflow plan attached to them. When content is first created it is in DRAFT and cannot be viewed by the public. Contributors can PREVIEW the draft content, check that it all looks correct, EDIT to make further changes, and then APPROVE content. Only APPROVED content is visible to the general public on the website. Contributors may also REQUEST APPROVAL from the Website Coordinator but this is a step that we do not utilise as it is not time efficient.
When you are finished with a content item, always click DONE. Do not click the X in the top right corner as this leaves the content item in a LOCKED state.
There is also an option to DELETE a content item. Contributors must never delete content from the website as we have had several instances where this caused major issues. If there is content that Contributors need to delete, simply UNPUBLISH it. This sends the content to draft and removes it from public access. Then contact the Website Coordinator to request deletion of the content item.
Note that the website is managed on a Production server (admin.nsw.mx5.com.au) which is mirrored on a Public server (nsw.mx5.com.au). The Public server is cached with a timeout of 15 minutes. This means that updates on the Production website can take up to 15 minutes before they are visible on the Public website. This design gives us much higher availability, reduces load on server and protects us from hacking and bot attacks.
